Bruce Highway Targeted Safety Program

Road safety improvements to the Bruce Highway are underway as part of the $9 billion Bruce Highway Targeted Safety Program (BHTSP). The program delivers key safety treatments to priority sections north of Gympie with a high safety risk.

Program Notes

Resources providing the technical requirements for BHTSP project design and delivery.

The Amendment Register summarises changes to BHTSP Program Note content.

The Program Notes have been developed specifically to support the delivery of BHTSP projects, however there is potential for other projects being delivered on the Bruce Highway to adopt elements outlined as part of this guidance. If you are not sure how or if these documents apply to your project, please contact your TMR Project Manager.

Construction Panels

Panels to support delivery of critical safety improvements to high-risk sections between Gympie and Cairns.

BHTSP Insurances

The BHTSP Principal Arranged Insurance (PAI) program, established in 2026, provides cover for infrastructure construction risks for the department, contractors, and, where applicable, consultants delivering BHTSP works. The program applies to eligible BHTSP construction contracts with an awarded value of up to $150M (excl. GST).

Construction Program 2026 - 2030

These insurance terms shall apply to tenders that will result in contracts awarded between 30.04.2026 and 31.12.2030.

Claims Procedure

If an event occurs that might give rise to a claim, ensure the Transport and Main Roads insurance unit is notified immediately. Late notification can create difficulties and possible delays in the assessment process.
