Coominya Connection Road, Buaraba Creek, replace timber bridge
The Buaraba Creek timber bridge replacement project will improve safety and network reliability by replacing the existing narrow, timber bridge (Neithe Bridge) with a new wider, two-lane, concrete structure in the same location.
The current bridge has been in operation since 1947, and now carries an average of more than 1,100 vehicles per day, with close to 16% heavy vehicles.
The new bridge will support growing transport demands and community connectivity, while minimising ongoing maintenance costs.
The department has investigated options and determined that the new bridge will be built in the same location and at the same height as the current bridge.
The project will not improve flood immunity at this location, since the surrounding flat topography means water goes over the road at times in multiple places on Coominya Connection Road leading to and from the bridge.
The design phase will include field work such as environmental surveys and geotechnical investigations to further inform the project design.
Traffic management options will also be further investigated to ensure ongoing traffic flow and movement during the construction phase.
