Diamantina Developmental Road (Dajarra – Mount Isa and Quilpie – Windorah), package of safety improvements

Safety and reliability on the Diamantina Developmental Road between Dajarra and Mount Isa and Quilpie to Windorah will be improved through a package of targeted upgrades. These will be delivered in sections between 50km and 130km north-west of Dajarra and about 2km north-east of Windorah.

Works include rehabilitation, widening and strengthening priority sections of pavement, widening approaches to Waverley Creek bridge and upgrading aged drainage structures.

The package of works includes 5 separate projects that will be delivered progressively to improve safety and reliability for everyone who uses this key link. This includes remote communities who rely on the road to access goods and essential services such as health, education and employment.

The road is also an important route for the movement of livestock and freight, mining and outback tourism.

The Australian Government and Queensland Government have jointly funded (50:50) under the Road Safety Program:

The Queensland Government has fully-funded:

  • Diamantina Developmental Road (Dajarra – Mount Isa), Waverley Creek, northern approach, undertake safety improvements – $1.416 million. Investment ID: 3015377
  • Diamantina Developmental Road (Dajarra – Mount Isa), replace corrugated steel pipes – $1.2 million. Investment ID: 3012103
  • Diamantina Developmental Road (Quilpie – Windorah) (Section 1), Long Crossing to Windorah, widen pavement – $2.454 million. Investment ID:2587385.
  • Diamantina Developmental Road (Quilpie – Windorah) (Section 2), pavement rehabilitation – $4.5 million. Investment ID: 2983419.
