Brisbane to Sunshine Coast Rail Corridor Strategy
We are developing a rail corridor vision and a staged program of rail priorities to 2051 on the North Coast Line between Brisbane and Gympie North.
The North Brisbane – Bruce Highway Western Alternative project includes planning for a new transport corridor between Elimbah and Bald Hills, known as the Moreton Motorway.
Planning for this future corridor is essential to support significant and sustained forecast population growth across south east Queensland.
The Moreton Motorway will deliver region-wide benefits and help future-proof the transport network.
The corridor will reduce congestion, strengthen network resilience and safeguard the Bruce Highway's critical role as the primary route for long-distance travel and freight. The new corridor will unlock housing and employment opportunities and enable economic growth, ensuring the region remains liveable and prosperous.
The planning is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments on a 50:50 (federal:state) basis.

Planning, community consultation, and protection of the future Moreton Motorway corridor is progressing in stages.
More than 30km of the corridor, between Elimbah and Narangba (stages 1, 2 and 4), are now identified and protected for the future Moreton Motorway.
The remaining section to be progressed is Stage 3, between Narangba and Bald Hills. Early feedback continues to be invited.
Planning for the Narangba to Bald Hills section will consider opportunities to connect and integrate the future motorway within a multi-modal transport network. The planning process will also consider other network investigations in the north Brisbane area, including the Gympie Road Planning Program, upgrades to the Gateway Motorway and Bruce Highway and the Brisbane to Sunshine Coast Rail Corridor Strategy.

The Queensland Government carefully considers social, environmental and economic costs and benefits when assessing and delivering infrastructure projects.
In planning and protecting the future Moreton Motorway transport corridor, we have evaluated and balanced a range of considerations to identify the most suitable route.
We understand that planning for a new transport corridor is a sensitive process and acknowledge the potential impacts on the community.
While our commitment to delivering a safer and more efficient transport network may require acquisition of privately owned land for infrastructure purposes, we are dedicated to working closely with directly affected landowners, neighbouring property owners and the broader community throughout the process.
Environmental and cultural heritage values are key priorities in our planning. The project will comply with all relevant legislative requirements and we will continue to engage with the stakeholders and the community.
