The Queensland Government, in partnership with Sunshine Coast Council, has finalised design for the Caloundra Transport Corridor Upgrade, including the Nicklin Way, Third Avenue extension.
The Queensland Government is progressing with a major upgrade of the Caloundra Road, Kawana Way Link Road, and Bells Creek Arterial Road intersection to deliver significant congestion relief and safety improvements for the Sunshine Coast region.
The Queensland Government is undertaking planning to determine possible upgrade options to the Caloundra Road, Nicklin Way and Pelican Waters Boulevard intersection to increase safety, reduce congestion, and improve active transport facilities and connectivity.
The Queensland Government is planning infrastructure upgrades to futureproof the Caloundra traffic network to accommodate future growth.
Over 60,000 vehicles travel the Caloundra Road corridor every day, with at least 30% growth in traffic in the past 2 decades.
The primary goals are to reduce congestion, boost capacity at key intersections, create additional connections to the Caloundra CBD, and improve traffic flow, travel times, and safety for all road users.
Program highlights:
Progressing the Nicklin Way to Third Avenue connection to take traffic off the Caloundra Road, Nicklin Way, Pelican Waters Boulevard roundabout, providing alternative access into the Caloundra CBD.
Fast-tracking construction for future upgrades to the Caloundra Road, Nicklin Way, and Pelican Waters Boulevard intersection to improve safety and reduce congestion.
Constructing a new north-south overpass over Caloundra Road connecting Kawana Way Link Road to Bells Creek Arterial Road to keep traffic moving.
Upgrading the Caloundra Road and Bellvista Road intersection to boost capacity and improve the flow of traffic.
Delivering a new link between Aura Boulevard and Pelican Waters Boulevard to ease pressure on Caloundra Road.
