Ross River Road, Mabin Street to Rolfe Street, improve safety

Safety upgrades are planned for Ross River Road, between the Mabin Street and Rolfe Street intersections, under the High Risk Roads program.

This initiative focuses on improving safety along road sections with high fatality or serious injury crash rates. The upgrades will deliver proactive safety treatments for all road users, including pedestrians, bike riders and motorists.

Cross Street/Balls Lane/Ross River Road

  • Install U-turn signs and modify signal timing

Mabin Street

  • Removal of right turn out of Mabin Street – resulting in right in, left in, left out movements
  • Extension of the centre median resulting in removal of outbound U-turn/right turn lane
  • Painted line marking centre chevron.

China Street

  • Installation of concrete centre median
  • Removal of right turn out of China Street and removal of right turn into China Street, resulting in left in, left out configuration
  • Extension of centre median resulting in removal of outbound U-turn/right turn lane
  • Upgrades to pedestrian crossing kerb ramps
  • Painted line marking centre chevron.

Wood Street

  • Upgrades to pedestrian crossing kerb ramps
  • Extension of right-turn lane stacking on approaches to Burdekin Street/Briarfield Street/Ross River Road signalised intersection
  • U-turn at Burdekin Street
  • Painted centre median chevron.

Water Street intersection

  • Installation of concrete centre median
  • Realignment of left-turn lane out of Water Street for improved sightlines
  • Upgrades to pedestrian crossing kerb ramps
  • Extension of right-turn lane stacking on approaches to Burdekin Street/Briarfield Street/Ross River Road signalised intersection.

Haughton Street

  • Installation of centre concrete median
  • Upgrades to pedestrian crossing kerb ramps
  • Upgrades to line marking.

Decourcey Street

  • Upgrades to pedestrian crossing kerb ramps
  • Painted line marking centre chevron
  • Upgrades to line marking.

Mango Avenue

  • Extension of centre median resulting in removal of outbound U-turn lane
  • Painted line marking centre chevron
  • Upgrades to line marking.

Bartlett Avenue

  • Installation of centre concrete median
  • Upgrades to pedestrian crossing ramps and kerbing
  • Painted line marking centre chevron

Lindeman Avenue

  • Signalisation of Lindeman Avenue
  • Installation of 3 signalised pedestrian crossings
  • Upgrades to pedestrian crossing ramps and kerbing
  • Extension of dedicated right-turn lane into Lindeman Avenue to allow for extra stacking room
  • Dedicated left-turn lane into Ignatius Park College
  • Dedicated left-turn lane into Lindeman Avenue
  • Removal of signalised mid-block pedestrian crossing
  • Relocation of bus stop – outbound before Ignatius Park College and inbound opposite Ignatius Park College past Lindeman Avenue
  • Inbound bus stop relocation towards Ross River Road and Nathan Street intersection
  • Installation of CCTV camera
  • Dedicated inbound U-turn facility
  • Upgrades to line marking.

Fraser Avenue

  • Installation of centre concrete median
  • Upgrades to pedestrian crossing ramps and kerbing
  • Upgrades to line marking.

Hatchett Street

  • Removal of right turn out of Hatchett Street
  • Extension of centre concrete median
  • Painted line marking centre chevron
  • Upgrades to pedestrian crossing ramps and kerbing

Killara Street

  • Installation of raised road hump
  • Removal of right turn out of Killara Street and right turn into Killara Street
  • Extension of centre median
  • Installation of dedicated inbound U-turn facility between Killara Street and Alice Street
  • Painted line marking centre chevron on Hatchett Street
  • Upgrades to pedestrian crossing ramps and kerbing
  • Upgrades to line marking.
