Samford Road safety improvements

The safety improvement project along Samford Road, covering a 1.5 km section between the Lomandra Access Road picnic area and Camp Mountain Road, inclusive of the intersection at Camp Mountain Road, is now complete.

This project introduced a series of treatments to lower the incidence and impact of crashes on this stretch of road. The key attributes of the safety project were shaped by insights received during community consultation.

Construction on this initiative commenced in early March 2024 and was completed in February 2025.

Additional information

Samford Road was identified for safety improvements due to its history of head-on and run-off road crashes with a high proportion of serious injuries.

The project's preliminary design was released to the community for feedback in early 2021. The majority of submissions received did not support the proposed removal of the 750m westbound overtaking lane, a key design feature for this safety improvement project. The project team investigated other options in response to this community feedback, and the final design retained the overtaking lane, while still improving safety on this stretch of Samford Road.

As part of the Queensland Government's $4.5 million commitment to support the City of Moreton Bay's Green Infrastructure Network Delivery Program, the department also delivered fauna protection measures on Samford Road as part of this project.
