Bruce Highway Advisory Council
The Bruce Highway Advisory Council brings together government, industry, and community representatives to discuss current problems and where investment should be prioritised along the Bruce Highway.
Council representatives
The Council is chaired by the Honourable Brent Mickelberg MP, Minister for Transport and Main Roads and includes representatives from peak industry bodies, senior government officials, and regional Queenslanders.

Regional representatives
An expression of interest was called for regional representatives to join the Bruce Highway Advisory Council. The 6 selected regional representatives bring diverse expertise to the Council including school transport, heavy vehicle and transport operators, and road safety advocates representing the following regions:
- North Coast: Pine River to south of Gympie
- Wide Bay/Burnett: Gympie to Gin Gin
- Fitzroy: Gin Gin to St Lawrence
- Mackay/Whitsunday: St Lawrence to Home Hill
- Northern Queensland: Home Hill to Ingham
- Far North Queensland: North of Ingham to Cairns.
Council progress
June 2026 (Gympie)
The Council focused on progress on the $9 billion Bruce Highway Targeted Safety Program and approach to disaster management, including investment in North Queensland.
December 2025 (Mackay)
The Council reviewed the Fatigue Management Strategy and discussed traffic management during upgrades.
July 2025 (Gin Gin)
The focus was on fatigue management and shaping the $9 billion Bruce Highway Targeted Safety Program.
March 2025 (Rockhampton)
Members discussed priority upgrades to improve safety and efficiency.
December 2024 (Townsville)
The council met for the first time to set priorities.
