Approved inspection station training
To apply for an AIS approval, nominee approval or approved examiner accreditation under the Approved Inspection Station Scheme (AIS), you must successfully complete the relevant AIS training modules before your application can be approved.
You will need to submit a copy of your certificate of completion or digital badge as a supporting document with your application.
Note: Completing the AIS training does not necessarily mean your application will be granted. You will also need to satisfy all other application requirements for an approval holder, nominee, or approved examiner.
You will not receive a refund of your application fees if your application is cancelled or refused. The training costs are paid directly to TAFE Queensland and therefore the we cannot provide a refund of these costs if your application is cancelled or refused.

There are no pre-requisites to complete the training.
Modules
If the AIS approval holder is an individual, the individual approval holder must complete the training. If the AIS approval holder is a company or partnership, the nominee(s) must complete the training. The directors or partners do not have to complete the training unless they are also a nominee.
AIS core module
All new applicants must complete the AIS core module. This module will include:
- an overview of the AIS scheme, roles within the scheme, eligibility and suitability requirements
- legislation relevant to the AIS scheme
- statutory conditions and key documents
- legislative responsibilities and operational requirements for each role within the AIS scheme
- compliance audits and enforcement actions
- understanding and using the Inspection Certificates Online
It is estimated that the AIS core modules should take approximately 2-3 hours to complete.
Inspection modules
In addition to the AIS Core Module, new applicants must complete the inspection modules for the inspection types they are accredited for or intend to apply for. The inspection modules are:
- Approved examiner light vehicle inspection module (LV/CL inspection types)
- Approved examiner motorcycle inspection module (MC/CM inspection types)
- Approved examiner light trailer inspection module (LT inspection type)
- Approved examiner heavy vehicle inspection module (HV inspection type)
- Approved examiner heavy trailer inspection module (HT inspection type).
Each module will include:
- an overview of the relevant inspection manual
- the purpose of the vehicle safety inspection being conducted
- an overview of the Australian Design Rules and vehicle modifications
- properly identifying the vehicle
- conducting the inspection and reasons for rejection.
Each inspection module should take approximately 1-2 hours to complete.
Training structure
The training will be self-paced and delivered online by TAFE Queensland.
Each module only needs to be completed once.
The AIS training is designed specifically for the Queensland AIS scheme and is not recognised for any other purpose.

The cost of the training will depend on your role and the number of inspection types you hold.

There are discounts available if you complete the core module and three or more inspection modules.

Accessing the training
Enrolments for training are available through the Course Gateway website.
After completing the training
After you have finished each training module, you will receive a certificate of completion and a digital badge. You will need to either include the certificate of completion or digital badge for each module as part of your application.
