Key works pipeline—upcoming tenders
We’re getting on with the job of delivering the next wave of works under the Bruce Highway Targeted Safety Program.
A major phase of the jointly funded $9 billion program is underway, with more than 70 tenders being released progressively from early 2026 to mid-2027.
What’s happening
- More than 70 tenders are being released—45 construction and 29 design.
- This includes 22 already being released, with another 52 announced for released over the coming months.
- Procurement is through dedicated construction and design panels, streamlining tendering and supporting faster delivery.
- Pre‑qualified contractors will be invited to tender, ensuring critical works continue at pace while maintaining strong future workflow for industry.
- Further tenders will be released with upgrades continuing to roll out progressively.
Delivering safer, more resilient infrastructure
Successful contractors are being appointed progressively, with construction to begin shortly after. This wave of tenders will bring a substantial program to market over the next 12 months, including:
- 9 new overtaking lanes at various locations including between Gin Gin and Benaraby, Benaraby and Rockhampton, and Townsville and Ingham
- more than 300km of wide centre line treatment
- more than 145km of pavement strengthening
- 23 intersection upgrades
- 2 new rest areas near Kolanga
- replacement of 8 narrow bridges between Ayr and Townsville and Ingham and Innisfail, including at Palm Creek, St Margaret Creek, Emmett Creek, Mackenzie Creek and Alligator Creek.
This is a fraction of what the broader program will deliver. More tenders will be released progressively to support the safe and strategic roll out of works.
