Overview

Action 4.4: Incorporate bike riding into strategies and initiatives aimed at expanding and promoting nature-based tourism in Queensland

Lead agency: Tourism and Events Queensland

Status: Complete

Achievements

Tourism and Events Queensland's Nature-based Tourism Strategy recognises that bike riding is growing in popularity globally among:

  • recreational users
  • holidaymakers.

It also identifies that bike tourists tend to spend more and stay longer than the average visitor.

Availability of bike trails in a scenic natural setting can be a key motivator when choosing a destination. Across Queensland, there is an increasing number of tracks and trails in scenic destinations that are suitable for cycling and mountain biking.

We made two new videos to encourage intrastate and interstate visitors to choose Queensland for mountain biking. They were published on Queensland's YouTube channel, which has 20.5 million subscribers, in October 2023.

View the two videos below:

We shared a social media reel on Instagram in September 2023. This received 30,500 views.

We also wrote and refreshed nine articles for our consumer website, Queensland.com. The articles invite people to try trail riding and mountain biking. They also highlight experiences throughout Queensland

We also added 50 new images to the Tourism and Events Queensland visual gallery for promotional use.

Next steps

We will continue to include mountain biking and cycling in our ‘always on’ marketing activity.
