Action 1.10, Action Plan for Walking 2022–2024

Department/Agency: Economic Development Queensland Cross River Rail Priority Development Areas

Status: Long-Term

Plan comfortable walking connections in Cross River Rail Priority Development Area development schemes, to be delivered over the medium to long term in future Cross River Rail Station Precincts.

Overview

Economic Development Queensland is planning safe, easy, accessible walking routes to the following Cross River Rail stations and nearby areas: Albert Street, Boggo Road, Roma Street and Woolloongabba.

Achievements

Economic Development Queensland is the planning authority for:

  • Albert Street Cross River Rail
  • Boggo Road Cross River Rail
  • Roma Street Cross River Rail
  • Woolloongabba Priority Development Areas.

The agency sets the development intent for these precincts. It expresses this through the development schemes' policy settings. It implements these via its regulatory assessment framework.

In September 2024, Economic Development Queensland finalised the development scheme for the Woolloongabba Priority Development Areas. This ensured that all Cross River Rail Priority Development Areas had a suitable planning policy, including key active transport links.

Economic Development Queensland works with stakeholders to plan for key walking routes between the Cross River Rail stations and the surrounding areas. The agency aims to make walking more attractive, easier, safer, and more accessible for people of all ages and abilities.

Next steps

Walking connections will be built using Economic Development Queensland's assessment framework. These will be delivered by Priority Development Areas development approvals.
