Project story: Jondaryan-Mount Tyson Road rehabilitation

Submitted by Gary Wilson, Principal Programs Officer, Toowoomba Regional Council.

The Jondaryan–Mount Tyson Road rehabilitation project provided vital safety upgrades to an important link road servicing the Mount Tyson area.

Jondaryan–Mount Tyson Road was in poor condition and at the end of its useful life. The project enhanced road alignment widened and smoothed the road surface, and improved drainage systems for the safety and convenience of the local community and all road users.

Rehabilitation was selected as the preferred treatment to maximise the amount of pavement that could be revived for the community. The project upgraded 5.3km of Jondaryan–Mount Tyson Road between the Toowoomba Cecil Plains Road and the township of Mount Tyson, including 4.7km of rehabilitation and 600m of resealing. The works included improving the shape of the road by adding approximately 50mm of additional gravel, mixing with the existing gravel and recompacting the pavement. The seal was also widened from 4m to 6m. Longitudinal drains were also improved to reduce the impact of water on the new pavement.

Toowoomba Regional Council teams completed the works between November 2024 and March 2025. Challenging wet weather conditions were experienced during construction and the successful completion of this project is a testament to the skill and dedication of the teams involved and their commitment to delivering quality outcomes for their community.

Council sincerely thanks the Mount Tyson community for their patience and support during the project.

The $1.33 million project received a $663,447 contribution from the Queensland Government under the TIDS.
